Just a few months after the powerful single “The Fans Applauded“, global citizen Exzenya is back with some serious grit. On this track the artist takes inspiration from the dirty guitars from both garage rock and oldschool blues, with enough bite to leave a scar. It’s a song about infidelity and finding freedom in the breakup from a toxic relationship, channelling self-worth first and foremost.
“B!tch Please” moves with distinctive groove and instantly feels like an unearthed 70s rock song. The narrative-above-production approach makes the track immensely authentic with attitude, tied together by the artist unmistakable vocals. The artist herself says that this single was written from the moment the door finally opens, and it’s filled with sass and humour directed at the other woman.
Exzenya exploits some of the darker aspects of the patriarchal ‘sugar daddy’ fantasy, only to smash them into pieces just a verse later. It’s a straightforward track that doesn’t mince words in order to get her point across. The song offers a stark black-and-white perspective on the situation, with influences from the conversational lyrics found in earlier Tom Petty and John Mellencamp songs while perfectly translating them to a modern audience.
