Brenna Menz stabs her ex relationship with a blade of truth one last time, reveals “I hope you miss me”

Seattle-based singer-songwriter Brenna Menz has just released her debut full-length “Shattered Perspectives”, a genre-fluid album of everchanging perspectives. Based on a recent, rather uncertain relationship with an avoidant person, the album tackles the absolute emotional chaos and confusion this relationship caused her, and “I hope you miss me” is a song of stern goodbye with a hope the person feels the regrets she did.

Brenna Menz is an artist best described as emotional and open to the point she describes herself as rash. Those qualities are poured straight into music, with lyrics showing her unfiltered thoughts about this crash-burn of a relationship in a form that’s intimate yet highly relatable. “I hope you miss me”, the second-to-last song of the album, is a peak example of her unabashed honesty, and it looks back into the now finished relationship.

The energy-driven pop rock tune comes bubbling with very strong emotions. Anger and contempt built from the ex-partner’s unwillingness to commit colors each lyric line with bold tones, as she sees the ex now in a relationship with someone else and still trying to stay in contact with her. The raging song stands tall and strong as an angry and determined statue of oneself, wiser and unwilling to let this pain and suffering to happen again.

“I hope you miss me” is the embodiment of a person, who gave her all and got nothing in return. The embodiment of the same person now seeing longing messages from that now-ex. Love must be nurtured from both sides, but this one has been dead for a long time. “My tender embrace is the one you can never replace,” she responds with contempt as she goes towards the door. “I hope you miss me,” and the door is now shut.

Shattered heart, shattered perspectives. This debut album is a full chapter of Brenna’s life, specifically the confusing relationship that went nowhere despite the effort she put into it. This chapter, now closed and formed into 9 songs, goes through a huge pile of cracked emotions, her attempts to heal herself and this love, and the aftermath of when it all finally went down in flames. It’s both a cathartic release of inner feelings as well as a warning to all, who listen, on what might happen when you hold onto something, which might have no worth in it at all.
