Formed in Hong Kong, Carpe Diem is a duo built around the creative partnership between vocalist Ada and guitarist Keith. On latest single “Life Is…” their sound is a spacious and cinematic indie pop filled with soft textures and kindness. The track is also a duet with singer Cecillia Tang, fulfilling a promise made between the artists almost a decade ago.
This beautiful piece of music unfolds as a piano-led ballad sprinkled with orchestral arrangements and impeccable guitar lines, resulting in a serene piece of music that is warm from start to finish. The new single from Carpe Diem also stands as the latest installment of their Life Trilogy, a project centered around intimacy and emotional maturity.
Taking inspiration from the real life friendship between Ada and Cecillia, “Life Is…” is a recollection of memories, shared experiences and fundamental life changes over the past ten years. Its music video captures that sense of authentic intimacy and companionship between the musicians through anime-style visuals that shine just as bright as their sunlit melodies.
The band says that the track builds upon the concepts first explored on their Dream Odyssey record, but now with more maturity and emotional growth. “Life Is…” paints the picture of a world in which gentleness and kindness speak louder than the pain, in which lightness will always prevail against the shadows. It’s a stunning song from the duo that firmly places them as a band that you definitely should be paying attention to.
