After a stunning debut single “Galore“, French singer and songwriter Marlene Larsen is already back with another jaw-dropping tune. “I Said I’m Fine”, her latest work, keeps up with the same influences that made her debut so remarkable, and this time she takes things to the next level.

Filled with distorted guitars, a shoegaze wall of sound, and a production that is heavily inspired by 90s alternative rock, “I Said I’m Fine” is a constant crescendo that explodes into something wonderful. Marlene knows precisely how to construct a powerful song, her melodies work very well with the guitars and her voice is as angelical as ever. ‘I’m fine, I’m fine. One more time and they’ll believe you; I’m fine, I said I’m fine‘, she sings on the chorus suggesting that things are not, in fact, fine at all.
This is only her second single, but Marlene Larsen has a way of writing songs that evoke genuine emotions from the listener. Once “I Said I’m Fine” explodes into a myriad of distortion and the drums kick in, just as she sings ‘it’s about the missing part of my soul‘, there is no way back. And God, I wouldn’t want to go back even if I could. Marlene Larsen’s “I Said I’m Fine” is a memorable song, filled with layers of emotion a pretty solid soundscape that hooks you in and it’s both comforting and haunting.

After a stunning debut single, Marlene did the impossible and released an even better tune. What makes Marlene’s music so impressive is that she knows exactly what she wants to accomplish – her vision and her artistry are incredibly well thought out and perfectly put together. It feels like something coming from someone with several years of albums released – but Marlene will release her debut EP with six tracks in September, and I cannot wait to hear more.
