Welsh singer, songwriter, musician, and actress Jane Allison is back promoting her single “Frayed”, a cut from her third album Like Magdalene. The track, yet another collaboration with Alonza Bevan, sounds both comforting and rebellious – and it’s a stunner.

Jane’s voice soars over her very own brand of folk rock as the production keeps getting more and more intricate, adding new elements and sounds every couple of seconds. The final result is astonishing, a song that instantly reminds you of the best work from iconic artists like Janis Joplin and Brandi Carlile. Jane has a way of controlling every single aspect of what we hear, she is the focus and still manages to let the instrumentals shine just as brightly as she does.
“It’s a call to action for anyone with a rebellious streak. I like to think of it as a middle finger to anyone who kept you down and this could be just the song that might pull you back up again”, the singer herself says about the track. “Frayed” is a remarkable piece of music, a highlight from a truly great album that sounds incredibly powerful and vulnerable at the same time.

Jane Allison keeps getting better with each song, and “Frayed” is an absolutely perfect choice for a single – as uplifting as “Magdalene” but somehow richer in sound and textures. Much of what makes “Frayed” a beast of a song, is the details and mood that it sets up. Filled with magical imagery such as dragons slaying, fires, and castles, there is a sunny and hopeful tone to the song as it tells a tale of resilience and perseverance that just never wavers. The world she sings about is fantastical in all of its realness, and it comes to show just how good of a writer she is.
