Very few artists can capture that exact feeling of Summer like our favorites, The Mars McClanes. The band from Portland has been featured on the website before (feel free to check those previous tracks), and now they’re back with a brand new single titled “So Close”. They made an honest and heartfelt summer song, but this time the summer’s ending and it’s filled with nostalgia for things that haven’t happened yet.

The end of the Summer is a bittersweet era, it leaves you with good memories of the days that passed by and at the same time, brings a whole new world and season of opportunities. That particular moment is exactly what The Mars McClanes are writing about in “So Close”. It feels drenched in fading sunlight, as they tell a beautiful story in remembrance of the day that’s just ending, recalling an intimate road trip and talking about how great it was. It makes you feel like you were there along with them.
The production on “So Close” knows exactly where and what to hit, never pushing things too far and keeping the tempo slow enough for you to dance to. At the same time, it highlights the feelings and lyrics as well as Brian Corley’s vocals with warmth and comfort. It has been a great day, but it’s now coming to an end as all things must. ‘Stay awake, we’re almost there. So close, so close‘ Brian sings in the chorus, bringing the end-of-the-day feeling all at once. The best day’s night is approaching, and we’re driving home tired and exhausted – but it’s okay. We had a great day and it’s ending, but tomorrow will be a new one.
“So Close” is an incredible high for the band, showing a new side to their sound and focusing on storytelling – and it comes as a surprise for no one that a band this talented could pull it off this nicely.
