October 20th will see the release of mUmbo’s newest single “Red Balloons”, their third song of this year. This new tune sets a contrast against the cold blue world with a group of shiny red balloons floating in the wind, representing the hopes and dreams that despite all the negative feedback still stubbornly adorn the sky. Whether they’re currently around or a sweet memory of the past, “Red Balloons” softens up the daily dread and influences to sit back and dream a little.

The ethereal dreamy “Red Balloons” is the 7th single coming from London-based alt-rock-pop group mUmbo. It’s yet another release coming from the band’s period of high creativity since 2022 and this time the band feels they’ve got the closest to achieving their own signature sound. Listening to this new song, it’s impossible not to agree.
Beautiful gentle guitar melody shimmer opens up the atmosphere of “Red Balloons”. Slow swaying mood, echoing magical vocals of singer Emma Semple, and caressing melodies streaming from Doug MacGowan’s guitar build up a distinctly dream-like song, but also longing and wrapped in soft melancholy. The hazy sound cuts into the grey mundane and brings with it the reminder of a real reason those red balloons of hope exist in the first place – it’s to give a reason to carry on – but it’s also easy to lose sight of them.
Semple, MacGowan, and drummer Antonio Dale, the three members of the band, are back from their summer break and ready to release a string of freshly written tunes. The song is the first to come from this new wave of energy and keeps much-needed comfort in the cold autumn days or unusually hot springtime (depending on where the listener is based). There’s no telling what beauty is yet to arrive from mUmbo’s creative pen, but it’s absolutely worth keeping your ears perked!
