The young singer-songwriter has previously stunned us with her solid and awe-inspiring singing and songwriting skills at just 14 years of age, and this time she takes a turn towards the sinister. “Darkness Bliss” is a story of gloom witnessing an innocent friend slipping away into the evil dark.

Dark melancholic guitar strings build up a classic taste of bleak atmosphere, one that’s a perfect fit for the season of wandering souls. Emotional wreckage and desperation surround what’s happening in the story sung by Edie’s soft yet driving voice, and the feeling of losing your dear friend in the arms of someone strange hits hard. It’s cruel seeing the innocence wither away and be replaced by aloofness hiding bad secrets, and “Darkness Bliss” describes all of that in such detail it makes the listener feel the despair she has.
The song is completed by the pleading high-key choruses begging for answers and simultaneously being well aware that she won’t get any replies. And so the cinematic and highly captivating story serves its position as a cautionary tale of how quickly friendships can deteriorate and people you thought you knew slip away faster than you’d expect. While others tell stories of ghouls and chainsaw murderers, “Darkness Bliss” takes the cake as this can happen to any one of us without warning.
