Carpe Diem, the two-piece band from Hong Kong, presents their newest single “A Fork in a Road”, released just recently on October 28th. The fork is not an actual kitchen utensil, but the path splits up into several other ones. Instead of rushing and panicking about which path to take next, Carpe Diem encourages you to stop rushing and reflect on the journey. “A Fork in a Road” is a caressing soft pop-rock song that feeds positivity into the uncertainty.

The path of Life, unlike usual daily paths like the road to work or the store, has no clear destination despite what people like to think. The journey, however, is sprinkled with choices to make and bumps to overcome. Carpe Diem embarks on the journey with hazy, laid-back, and atmospheric slow indie rock sound. There’s an inkling of anxiety-laced excitement as Ada voices the desire to move on along the path, and at the same time, she keeps the tone comforting and optimistic. It’s encouraging, especially when the bumps can throw one off the path – the journey is still there and it’s not a competition.

Ada’s gentle voice builds up into an uplifting chorus as she looks forward to the brand-new day and the opportunities it brings along. The rumble of electric guitar notes and the melancholy hope instilled in the melodies of harmonica as well as the strings make the song an ethereal experience, which does wash off the worries like the summer rain does for the singer. And to top it off, there’s an exhilarating electric guitar solo, which elevates and electrifies the atmosphere really well.
The reflection on keeping a positive mind and that inkling to keep going are also featured on the song’s music video, which offers lots of beautiful little moments along the grand journey. The plane takeoff, warm summer days, the changing scenery and more have one theme in common – the journey goes on and so does life.
