After the successful release of their album To The Teeth – spawning two dutch IndieXL top ten hits – KOLBAK is back with the first of a batch of new songs to be released in 2024.

STREAM “PLAY TIME” ON SPOTIFY NOW!

Play Time was written as early as 2012, inspired by events during the Syrian civil war, but was never committed to tape. Today the song hasn’t lost any of its urge nor relevance. Recorded as an upbeat song, it ponders the loss of innocence, the universal human nature to have to fight – even at an early age, and the resulting question: what did we gain?

“In general, it is a song about losing your innocence during war, but also about how fighting is a part of human nature’s DNA. It is also meant to let off steam on anything that has to do with war. Plus you can dance to it.”

Wordplaii “Downhill” Released December 22nd.

“I wrote this song while dealing with massive amounts of baggage after leaving the street life to work a normal job and try and stay myself out of trouble, but this transition seemed almost impossible, and I didnt think I would ever be able to get out of the corner I painted myself into.”

JJ Chamberlain “Tired of Christmas” Released December 15th

This release is for all those who are tired of the relentless commercial machine that comes along with Christmas. For everyone who wishes that Christmas could just be about family, friends and quality time. This one has to be on my Different Kind Of Christmas playlist and you need to add it to yours.

ORDER “TIRED OF CHRISTMAS” ON BANEDCAMP NOW!

“Tired of Christmas came from an idea that I was discussing with friends about a month ago. I mentioned that I’d vowed to never write a Christmas song and they said “what about writing an alternative Christmas song?” Then I thought of Just Like Christmas by Low and how the sentiment kind of fits my usual style and narrative.

I’ve had a tough year personally and normally I can overlook the ever increasingly premature Christmas hype, but this year it just felt wrong. So I used this as the core sentiment for the song. I remember my parents telling me that if I wasn’t good I’d get a sack of coal for Christmas, so that became the inspiration for the chorus.”

Chloé Sautereau “Catch My Fall Again” Released Dec 08th.

Realizing you’ve fallen deep for someone manifests in many ways & it is hard to go back. This song is all heartbreak, but hopeful in understanding “that’s how I feel.” “Catch My Fall Again” was written, recorded, produced by Chloé herself, with Ben Gordon on bass. Stripped back, the stakes are in her voice and grounded guitar. Mixed & mastered by Harry Burr.

STREAM “” ON SPOTIFY NOW!

“I wrote it in a particularly lonely time because of that very doubt, of sudden silence, and the crumbling pressure of months of wondering and not wanting to see how I felt for what it was. It’s about being confused because your feelings manifest in ways you didn’t expect. It’s in part relieving, though, because it’s about accepting what you feel and felt, the moments lived, and that no matter what happens there’s value in those instants”.
