DISCOVERED VIA MUSOSOUP

.- If you’re in the hunt for music that’s both exhilarating and contemplative, Storm Boy might just be what you fancy. The Olympia, WA based, post-hardcore rock ‘n’ roll band is set to drop a new EP on January 12th called “With a Gasp that Reached to the Sky.” They openly embrace the comparisons of their dramatic, rockin’ sound to that of bands like Red City Radio and Hot Water Music. Storm Boy certainly fits the bill for fans of those projects. You can keep reading our review here.

.- I’ve written several reviews so far and have a “b line,” so to speak, on a lot of things coming out in the near future. I know, I read the headlines too, there’s plenty of existential dread to be had about 2024, but the music being made is entirely on the opposite end of that spectrum. Case and point, the latest from DCxPC Live featuring NYC’s Necrotic Society, a feminist hardcore band that possesses just the right energy and spirit needed to get through this zany year. You can keep reading our review here.

.- Lindsay Brazell is set to start 2024 off with a strong dose of soul-warming music. She’s got a brand-new EP ready, titled “The World This Way”. What can immediately be said about the release is that it’s a potent medicine for the weary and bruised souls out there. Let yourself be caressed and healed, as Lindsay’s music brings forth newfound faith in a beautiful swaying indie pop record. You can keep reading our review here.

.- Billie Skye “Amorous Mirage” In her own words: “This EP represents a profound journey through the realms of the heart, self-discovery, and unfiltered emotional expression. With a seamless blend of R&B beats and pop melodies, my music aims to create a unique and resonant experience for listeners.”

‘AMOROUS MIRAGE’ is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a testament to my raw and genuine approach to music. As a storyteller, I weave soulful melodies into every track, offering an authentic and heartfelt experience. I believe in the power of music to connect and resonate, and I hope ‘AMOROUS MIRAGE’ becomes a cherished part of your audience’s musical journey.”

.- Lorem and his brand-new EP “18” in his own words: “The opening song was written when I turned 18 years old. I looked around and saw all of my friends growing up, getting jobs, and moving out. This worried me because I didn’t feel ready yet to do the same. So, I wrote a song about it. The rest of the EP mirrors the same concept of growing up in different forms through different situations and people.”

.- And Y Et invites curiosity, creativity and spontaneity in their unconventional song forms and harmonic language. A pandemic-induced project, the duo remotely wrote and tracked each song against a backdrop of both solitude and friendship. The album “everyone is from somewhere and also nowhere” considers themes of mutual-aid, deep listening, climate change, over commitment, and meditation. The result is a genre defying, eye-twinkling sonic landscape where improvisation and finely structured part-writing are interwoven into densely lush, heart-filled tunes.

.- The Wren “this is gonna hurt” in her own words: “It contains six original tracks with vulnerable lyrics that tell honest stories about heartbreak and healing, influenced by artists like Lizzy McAlpine and Jensen McRae. Warm acoustic guitar, lush string arrangements, and soothing vocals set the stage for personal storytelling that aims to help listeners feel less alone.”

.- MooseTooth‘s new EP, “Live Vol. 1” was recorded on St. Patrick’s Day 2023 at The Mousetrap in Indianapolis. The Mousetrap is an Indianapolis institution for the best local acts in town. Featured on the album are 3 songs from their first album, “It All Tastes The Same”: The Waltz Bit, Things I Need, and Wet Heave, Dry Heave, Die. There is an as yet unreleased track, “Monster,” and a Ween cover called “The Blarney Stone”.

.- Sparks Fly from a Kiss is no longer together, and “Cornered and Shot” brings together a diversity of their demos and outtakes. All songs were recorded over 20 years ago and are previously unreleased.
