London band Near Death Experience (NDX) has created a diverse and engaging album titled The Release, blending various genres such as garage, rock, soul, funk, indie, psychedelia, and blues. The use of acoustic instruments, along with electronic elements, adds a dynamic touch to the overall sound. The inclusion of different musical styles, from the punchy funk-rock riff to the smooth electro groove and the soulful pop yearnings, showcases their versatility.

The sonic richness and production variety, combined with killer melodies and singalong hooks, make the album a compelling listen. In the song, Religion, from the rustic we move to some electronic fluid bass and beats but some acoustics heard in the background. The songs truly feature some stunning guitar and overall phenomenal instrumental work. Swing, mariachi horns, jazz-funk psychedelia, world music jangle of ‘Lightning’. Kudos to vocalist and songwriter Ian Whiteling who glides the various moods of the album with ease.
My verdict is that this is a rustic rock record with acoustic instruments and a sonically rich production rooted in blues and solid songwriting. The wide variety of tones and instruments, along with the incorporation of different genres, creates a unique and enjoyable listening experience. Overall, it appears that NDX has successfully crafted an album that keeps the energy high, features engaging compositions, and showcases their musical diversity.
