Gary Dranow, a busy and multi-faceted artist from the US, is ready to show yet another jewel, this time in the form of a rock song. “Hadrian’s Wall” is influenced by historical events seen through the eyes of a Roman soldier, and the storyteller, energy-infused single tells a captivating tale of what it was like to build and battle on the Hadrian’s Wall, so far from home.

The song takes us back in history to the era of Roman Britannia, when the wall was built as a defensive fortification against the looting “barbarians”. The lengthy building period along with constant guarding against enemy troops are the main themes explored by Gary Dranow, and the story is told as seen by the Roman guard.

Much like the wall was a symbol of the power of the Roman Empire, “Hadrian’s Wall” flies and soars with pride as mighty electric guitar riffs build up an awe-inspiring visual. The lyrics, however, also bring in the low points in the life of the soldier as a homesick man separated from his wife and child, always on guard and exposed to the ruthless elements. The single follows his life all the way to the end and concludes in death in solitude, his heart left on the Hadrian’s wall much like his dad, who was included in the construction of the wall.
The artist has created yet another highly captivating song that offers not just listening joy, but also thinking matter. The Hadrian’s Wall stands now as a historical monument, but the song also sees the wall as what else it is – a monument of bloodlust and bombastic craze in a massive scale. It’s a welcome point of view from an individual as opposed to the empire, and “Hadrian’s Wall” does an excellent job in creating a vibrant visual for the story.
This song will be part of Gary’s upcoming full-length album “Never Give Up”.
