After a successful run of singles done in collaboration with German producer Luke Tangerine, Spanish powerhouse Carlos Ucedda returns with his brand-new solo single “Short Time My Love”. This time around, Carlos shies away from the big synths and larger than life EDM productions from his past few songs; instead, he delivers a softly spoken ballad about love and loss featuring angelical vocals that feel like a punch in the gut.
“Short Time My Love” bets heavily on ambience, creating a sonic landscape that sounds and feels like an open field during the harshest of winters. The mood it sets is cold and inhospitable but filled with incredible beauty at the same time. As he sings about a couple whose love can never properly be fulfilled, there is heartbreak and loss on his voice, but also hopefulness. This song feels like a reminder to enjoy the little time that we have, but that doesn’t mean that it’ll cease to hurt when it’s time to part ways again. “Short Time My Love” is a delicate song, that balances those conflicting emotions very well.
Carlos Ucedda has already established himself as one of the most creative voices in electronic music at the moment, and this latest single comes to show that he can actually do anything. The beautifully shot music video for the single features Carlos performing alone on an empty bridge, dancing and feeling all of the emotions to their fullest.
It’s very interesting that the came never once moves; it stays perfectly still in the same place as Carlos does all the moving around as he sings. This stillness does a lot to the song, as it contributes to the ephemeral feeling that he is singing about, leaning on how fragile it is. The music video illustrates all of those sentiments with a very minimalistic approach, and it works outstandingly well.
“Short Time My Love” shows us an artist that isn’t afraid of expressing himself, and willing to change their approach to the production to match the emotions he’s portraying. It’s a song like no other on his remarkable discography, and a step into a new direction that feels organic and human to the maximum degree.
