Gary Dranow has been really busy making music lately and it’s just wonderful to hear more of that storyteller indie rock coming from his pen. This time Gary and The Manic Emotions dive into the love shared between a strong father-son union, resulting in a poignant and soul-elevating single with a simple title “Dad”. There’s wisdom, lots of shared memories and above all, an endless amount of love!
Perhaps obviously on hindsight, “Dad” strikes immediately with immense warmth and gratitude among other lovely feelings that seem to drive every note of the single. There are soaring notes present in the song that give way to the notion of what a father does to help his child climb further up towards grand achievements. Along with that, the fusion of heartfelt rock ballad looks back on shared memories and lessons learnt with a smile joined by a tear of appreciation.
Based on a moving Christmas letter sent from Matthew DeBlanc to his father Harold, the song’s lyrics pack a whole lot of heartwarming emotions. Gary’s songwriting skills shine bright in here as he has carefully packaged all those huge emotions and their afterglow into lyrics. Embedded in the eternal thankfulness and sweet memories lie also the hard-to-decipher emotions only known for a child who loves their parents to no end. Those can only be read between the lines and heard between notes. The fact those exist in the song speak highly of Gary and his band’s musical skills.
Gary Dranow is a multi-talented artist living in the States and he is joined by a group of skilled musicians from around the world forming the band The Manic Emotions. Gary also has a deep friendship with Harold Deblanc, which definitely shows in this single especially. All-around, Gary and The Manic Emotions create beautiful soul-touching music for people, who want to live in tune with their emotions and appreciate good indie rock sound.
