Brought together by a shared love of the band Eels and 70s psychedelic rock, Dizzy Panda and The Perics artists came up with an album that sounds and feels incredibly eclectic, dynamic and chaotic in the best possible way. Pentapolis is the epitome of fun, creating an inviting atmosphere that reels you in instantly and gets you up and dancing even alone in your room. The highly experimental album flows easily and feels like every single person involved in it is having the best of times, doing weird things and just going with it.

Pentapolis, across its twelve tracks and constant changes in sound and production, is an album that is truly fearless: anything goes, every thought is a valid one and deserves to be explored to its fullest potential. In that way, the album feels like an improv session in which all of the performers know and trust each other extremely well and click wonderfully together. If the production on Pentapolis feels like it’s all over the place, it’s because it is. And it still manages to masterfully bring a cohesiveness to its chaos that is remarkably impressive.

What we get on Pentapolis is a loose concept album, based on the Shakespeare play Pericles, Prince of Tyre. “In this timeless tale, Prince Pericles embarks on a courageous and adventurous journey, facing shipwrecks, encounters with pirates, and the loss of loved ones”, the artists themselves said about the inspiration behind the album.

In a way, the constant changes in sound and production do feel like an epic journey that guides the listener through Pericles’s travels and paints a sonic landscape that is completely unpredictable: you never know what you’ll get next. From the hard-hitting funk-inspired rock and roll of opener “Drunken Sailor” to the jazz fusion 60s girl group sounds of “Sirens of Sunny Beach”, featuring Dutch band Younique, the overall feeling of Pentapolis is one of pure joy and fun.

Exploring genres such as psychedelia, indie rock, funk and jazz, Dizzy Panda and The Perics carefully crafted fully formed universes with unique atmospheres. In its constellation of sounds, each song is its own planet with well thought-out ecosystems and ambiance, resulting in an album that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire ride. It’s daring, bold and in-your-face music that somehow still feels comforting and stable like a hug. The album will be released in physical formats, and it’s already available for pre-order here in both CD and vinyl!
