Inventive electronic music duo Moon and Aries are back with a brand-new song and mood, “Firenight”. Arriving a little less than two months after their last single “Nothing to Lose”, the duo made up of German producer Tom Aries and Canadian vocalist Jordana Moon branch out into yet new territories with this one. On “Firenight”, we get a more dance-oriented type of electronics, which sounds very nice and it’s something that Moon and Aries haven’t fully fathomed yet, up until now anyways.

The duo always does a wonderful job in creating the atmosphere for their music to exist in, carefully crafting the space and sounds into twisted bent shapes that allows their music to pour through, and on “Firenight” that move is more precise than ever. As the two toy around with the production, we get a mood that is very different even though it does sound cohesive to their other material. Written about ascending out of darkness, there is a transcendence aspect that really shines through “Firenight” and makes it even more compelling.
“Firenight” features some of their best use of arpeggiators so far, setting up the tone very vividly and making room for Jordana’s steady and confident vocals to find their way into being. The overall theme of the song deals with newness; resurrection and rebirth as they build a new world out of the ashes of the old. On the lyrics we get solid imagery of this, such as references to the rising of a phoenix by their side as the old world fell down. It’s very powerful and poetic in its delivery, beautifully sung by Jordana with such emotion and grace.

The production matches everything perfectly, creating a shy dance beat that feels almost like a return to form from them. This is exactly the kind of electronic music that the duo was known for, but taken to a brand new level. And it’s just really good. “Firenight” tells a full story and bets on rekindling their sound, leaving their experimental mood a little more to the side this time.
This approach to the songwriting and production was a very smart decision, as their new single feels nostalgic and like a bath on naturally warm, thermal waters. As Moon and Aries sing of fire and ashes, of new beginnings, they dance around the ashes of the past and it feels like a ritualistic celebration of life, and it’s oh so very fitting with where they find themselves right now sonically and philosophically.
