On the new song “All Changed”, frontman and songwriter Rob Gaylard AKA “The Nomadic” does a very good job making up universal lyrics that can appeal to anyone. It’s a song about change, quite literally, and how our past personal experiences shape us into the persons we are today. What is very inspiring about this is that “All Change” isn’t a sad song at all.

“All Changed” was produced by Dan Frizza, who has already worked with the likes of King Princess and Gurrumul, and he brings a certain breeziness to the instrumentals that work beautifully. The guitars seem to flow and intertwine with one another as Rob’s vocals soar like a warm summer gust of wind. There is an excellent use of slide guitars and a steady percussion that grounds the song at the same time that provides a great sense of pacing and time passing. It is truly stellar work, the production on this song is utterly remarkable from start to finish and sounds very organic and fresh.

The single comes accompanied by a music video, showing a couple in an AA-style meeting and developing a relationship. We get glimpses of their past lives and what happened to led them there, and how they together break their previous cycle and end up happy and blissful. It’s extremely thoughtful and moving, a beautiful story that illustrates what the song is about perfectly.

“As we grow and evolve, we are inevitably ‘all changed’ by the struggles, challenges and opportunities that life presents”, Rob himself said about the track before concluding “The song is therefore a tribute to everyone who goes through life’s hardships and struggles, and comes out the other side, resiliently endeavouring to show up each day as their best self!” And it is a quite unique perspective to showcase.

Rob sings it as a matter of fact, the things that happened in your life will impact you, but there is a kind of sweetness to it. By singing in the first-person plural pronoun ‘We’, Rob inserts himself alongside the listener as someone who’s also experiencing those changes. It brings a sense of community, like we don’t have to go through it alone because it’s happening to all of us. “All Changed” is a special little nugget of a song, beaming positivity and continuing to lay the groundwork for what will be a very unique album.
