Welcome back my friends, MadZen here. Today we have a very special artist (but then again, they all are) from Sweden. A one-man band created by the musician known as Pacific Death. Influenced by electronic music as well as such artists like Frank Zappa and Les Claypool, you can expect a very unique and original style from this man.
While the project began with electronic productions, Pacific Death introduced guitar playing on the second album and today the guitar serves as a core element, seamlessly blending with different textures.
**ocean of sleeping stars* offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere. With a playful spirit, Pacific Death lets his guitar take the lead as he plays dreamy yet energetic melodies. Exciting and bold the artist amuses us throughout the track with the way he experimentes with his guitar, playing in a groundbreaking way.
Two things that stand out are the quirky intro, which assimilates the freaky grooves from bands like Primus, and the outro, which heavily contrasts with the latter as it is just a simple piano, playing the final notes in a very jazzy and mellow way.
This single is one of the predecessors of Pacific Death’s upcoming fourth album, as he will be releasing two singles per month.
Pacific Death loves experimenting with unexpected musical sequences, transitions and genre mixing, often defying traditional music conventions. As the man himself describes it:
“I find it very exciting to explore what other people would never put in a song.”
