A moody, powerful and extensive foray into the dark depths of human psyche. That’s what Die Kammer have in stock now with the release of their fifth album “Season V: Maybe Forgotten. Maybe Glorious.” Whether you’re emotionally distraught or surprisingly content with life, this band will find a way to get you down on the knees and connected to the true nature of a human essence.
Season Five sprouted from the era of pandemic intertwined with personal struggles. It stands as a witness to the world gone way off the course since the lockdowns, both in societal and individual point of view. Thus, this is some heavy material with already hard-hitting lyrics driven home by vocals and instrumentals that know how to build tension and make you feel the emotions present in the songs. It’s cinematic without the typical nostalgic movie scene imagery, emotionally impactful, and it sounds sublime. People adoring sound that makes them feel things will love this record.
Sound-wise, the 5th installment sees Die Kammer incorporate electronic elements into the mix along with the band’s acoustic guitars and strings, resulting in a dark, intense atmosphere. There’s strobing synths and potent electronic beats going in (twisted) harmony with emotive cello melodies, all setting the stage for incredible, characteristic vocals singing of both injury and death, and the unsurpassed lust for living.
The album contains 11 songs, and the vivid moody dance of life and destruction runs for 46 minutes. Within that timeframe, there’s ample amounts of intense stories to experience. Empty spaces that saw life just some time ago in “Melancholy Milkshake”, pure unfiltered dread that is brought on by the stream of negative news in “I’ve Given Up to Cry”, the exhilarating release in “I’m Leaving Now” and the brooding, stomping industrial “The Void” looking into the terrifying empty space formerly occupied a person no longer around, the album sways between building you up and then shattering you again. All while depicting a raw visual of the storm of emotions stirring inside.
One of the songs, “Ignoring My Safeword” has a music video, which provides eery, dreadful visuals in the realm of love. One would think love is the ultimate, most powerful emotion of all and it is, but the human mind yearns to control, manipulate and punish, sometimes itself, but usually someone else. Die Kammer is formed by two musicians, Marcus Testory and Matthias Ambré. The two seasoned artists along with an ever-changing array of musicians originally kept a purely acoustic sound. With the pandemic as well as the group’s 10th anniversary, they started including electronica to the sound, making this sort of electronica-sprinkled chamber music. Now also darker and more mature than ever with the release of Season 5.
