British singer and songstress Shannon Darcy is back with her first release of 2024, the stellar single “Just Worried Because”. The artist from Essex has been making a splash in the alt rock scene since her debut “Snakes and Ladders” from January 2023, and really shows us how much she is growing and maturing as both a songwriter as well as a vocalist. This is only the fourth single from this very talented young woman, but she’s already given us so much variety and range across her releases, it’s completely astounding.
Over the last year, the artist experimented with both heartfelt ballads (“Freak Show“) as well as grungy guitars without ever losing her quickly establishing identity and creativity. Rooted in rock music but unafraid to branch out into different genres and sounds, Shannon Darcy is truly making a name for herself in the current musical landscape of independent British music.
Her latest installment, “Just Worried Because” shows an artist taking a small step back from her stunning electronic-inspired collaboration with The Kompozitor and Tracey Meli on the track “Nearly 2 AM” and dives right back into her own brand of bubblegum grunge that hits you like the most perfect throwback.
Shannon has a very interesting style of blending dark pop, punk rock and grunge that feels refreshing in today’s sonic world. Sounding like both Olivia Rodrigo and Donita Sparks at once, Shannon Darcy is on the way of becoming a true force of nature within the rock community.
“Just Worried Because” is a song written about dealing with your own inner thoughts, pressures and trying to shut down your overthinking obsession when everything that surrounds you feels a bit too much to handle. As she sings ‘When someone asks me what’s wrong, all I can say is I’m just worried because…‘ in the chorus without ever giving us a final word to that sentence, she embodies and expresses what anxiety feels like for all of us.
It’s a cathartic song, that manages to put into words things that we all feel sometimes, and definitely brings forth the most vulnerable lyrics she’s ever released thus far. “Just Worried Because” proves itself to be a powerful anthem, meant to be screamed at the top of a building as you dance and rock out and let the demons go.
Its raw emotions pour through every single chord and leave you on a high like a particularly insightful therapy session. A song driven by personal thoughts and tortured poetry that allows you to relate and exorcize all the negativity by indulging deep into those feelings and just letting go.
