Shannon Darcy, an indie rock-punk singer-songwriter, has just released her newest single “Freak Show” on August 11th. This time the Essex-born artist takes a turn towards the wicked and the dark, mainly the dysfunctional relationship of partners in crime. “Freak Show” is a story of two fictional and really quite evil characters going against the rest of the world, together. Frenemies, if you will.

Villains have always stood out as more interesting fictional characters for Shannon Darcy – they always have a story to tell as well as a clear vision of the world they want to live in. In the new single, Shannon explores the relationship of a duo of such villains. The madness and toxicity run rampant, but so does the sheer unhinged passion as the duo join forces to bring on the change that they have been plotting for so long.
I started writing ‘FREAK SHOW’ one night when I just couldn’t sleep and I had the urge to write a song. I’ve always loved the villains in movies and tv shows and books etc, as I think that they always have an interesting and exciting story to tell.

Moody passion-driven darkness fills up their soul and also the “Freak Show” they have going. Slow-paced beat and low dark notes are surrounded by the twirling chaos taken further by Shannon’s sweet, sweet vocals. Madness and mayhem show their face through ear-caressing deep bass, lyrics of cinematic descriptive quality, and melodies that move together in a wicked sort of dance. It’s a real goosebump-fest, but at the same time “Freak Show” manages to keep the chaos straight on the course to meet its devilish destination.

“With my music, I like to tell a story. Whether that be a figurative story, like FREAK SHOW, or a story that has real meaning to me, like my other song ‘Easier Said Than Done’. I hope that the messages within my lyrics and songs are able to give listeners an outlet to express themselves with. I was a very shy and socially awkward person growing up and I think that music has helped me come out of my shell. For anyone who perhaps feels like I did or struggles expressing themselves, I hope that my songs give them an ability to do just that, to express how they feel without worrying about what others may think.
