Matthew Rousseau is an Atlanta-based singer and songwriter who’s been releasing music under the name MatAre for a few years now. With a couple of singles, EPs and a FULL-LENGTH album under his belt, Matthew strikes back with “Perfect Constant”, a softly driven indie rock track filled with gorgeous dream pop and POSTPUNK influences.
Short and sweet, “Perfect Constant” is about how you’d spend your last day alive on Earth: with your loved ones. It’s a gentle song that treats a very delicate subject matter with the kindness and warmth it deserves. Clocking in in just under two and a half minutes, “Pefect Constant” comes across as a beautiful little nugget, a song that is concise and to the point while still sounding absolutely stunning and vulnerable.
“Perfect Constant” soars with incredible production, blending together a lot of different influences from the 90s alternative rock scenes. Reminiscent of bands such as Adorable and Lilys, the sounds achieved by MatAre on his new single do an amazing job of transporting you directly into another time period with its nostalgia-infused guitars and heartfelt emotional lyrics.
MatAre developed this doomsday scenario and managed to pull a gorgeous love letter out of it. With overdriven and distorted guitars, the textures explored by the artist are stunning and make for a glorious oneiric atmosphere that sounds inspired by the softer side of shoegaze. “Perfect Constant” relies on a simple and yet complicated premise and is backboned exactly by this complexity in a bittersweet way.
“If I had one more day to live I would spend the time with my wife, my partner. She is the Perfect Constant that I refer to“, Matthew told us about the track. It’s such a sweet and loving thing, to imagine that out of everything you could do in your final day, you’d just want to be with the one you love. “I would choose to have drinks, talk and just be happy with her by. Other than that there is nothing else I would want to do on my last day“, he concludes.
That exact sense of overwhelming love and partnership comes across incredibly beautifully and drenched in sensibility all over the track, and it’s responsible for the sentiments of pure joy and love that can be felt on it. Mathew is really pulling his weight and making a very interesting name for himself on the current landscape of alternative rock, and I cannot wait to hear what comes next from this project.
