KAT’s raw and powerful heartbroken single “Same Mistake”

London-based singer and songwriter KAT has been making a name for herself for a couple of years now, releasing great music that flows seamlessly between the realms of pop, rock and soul. On her latest song, “Same Mistake”, we get to see KAT expanding on her acoustic side, the one introduced on her excellent single “Rise” from last year.

“Same Mistake” is a ballad about unrequited love, about the lack of reciprocity or full commitment. It’s a track easily relatable, unfortunately most of us have felt this way at some point or another; when you love someone and give them your all, and in return you get next to nothing. It’s a heartbreaking feeling, and an universal concept for a song and KAT does it incredibly well.

What sets “Same Mistake” apart from her previous releases is that the version of the track that we got is a live performance. Accompanied by musician Joe Lavinzki on the acoustic guitar, KAT’s vocals sound powerful and awe-inspiring in their vulnerability. There has always been a vivid raw emotion to her vocals, and that aspect shines even brighter in this live setting. KAT sounds so good, you can definitely feel everything that she is portraying in this performance, beautifully captured on video as well in which you can see the full range of emotions by the artist who is singing these devastating lyrics with a big smile on her face the whole time.

Going from the soulful influences on the stadium-sized pop rock energy that seems to soar from above, KAT sounds ready to take on the world. “Same Mistake” is the quintessential track for the artist, who is telling a heart crushing story of feeling left out by the one she loves the most. This song perfectly captures the moment you fully fathom the situation you’re in and doesn’t yet know how to get yourself out of it. There is so much honesty and longing in this performance, you can feel the emotion pouring out of her in every syllable.

Releasing “Same Mistake” on this live setting was an incredibly smart move, as it boils down the song to its most important aspect which is the emotional content. With her new single, KAT proves herself as proper powerhouse vocalist and storyteller with so much more to show us. It is great news the fact that the singer is getting ready to unveil her debut EP, Warrior Heart, very soon and I cannot wait to hear more.
