51 Miles away, the Bavarian / Saxony-Anhalt based alt rock duo have returned with a new body of work in tandem, this time being their second full-length album “Time Catcher”. Coming back as moodier and boasting a deepened rock sound, the duo have some serious stories put in the album and wish to give a voice to all the misunderstood people suffering in silence.

Following last year’s release of single “Redeem Me (Finally)“, 51 Miles Away’s new LP comes packaged with more songs about the struggles of mental illness and the endless inner tug of war with the demons. Despite the sadness and despair, “Time Catcher” resembles hope for better future free of pain. That glimmer of hope is what keeps a man trying, for without it one may as well die, and thus the album keeps that glimmer high up shining down into the dark days of desperation.
There are 9 songs on the record, the single included. Its total runtime of about 41 minutes include strong growth of the band’s sound as they manage to tackle such heavy themes as if they’re born to do so. What is dark in ways that’s hard to put into words, the duo translates eloquently through gritty, bold-faced Korn-esque rock with elements of electronica.
The effortless flow of quality guitar riffs and rocking drums running hand-in-hand with synthpop-tinted vocals bring out everything that’s embedded in the rather poetic lyricism. The constant state of inner turmoil is depicted well, as is the worn out feeling and resulting apprehension. For instance, “Deception” sounds as if the demon takes the form of a savior in shiny suit trying to steer you away from your path with the promise of one wish.
Title track, however, is the true savior bringing some sense into the messy, lowed up mind. It reminds us that the past cannot and should not be changed, but what can be done for the better tomorrow is changing the present. Leave the tears in the past, you have time to shape your future.
