American-based indie rock band myclownshoes gets us ready for their new album, the highly anticipated follow up to 2019’s Lips Do What Hands Do with a stellar alt rock banger “Temptation Is a Weapon”. Having only released a handful of singles over the past years, the band’s fanbase continues to grow as more and more people seem to discover their early music. So, naturally a new album couldn’t have come at a better time for them.

The band, led by singer and songwriter Blue Happel, is ready for a significant shift to their sound as teased by “Temptation Is a Weapon”: they left the dreamy R&B bedroom pop sound behind them and came back with a full force indie rock anthem that feels like a Heavenly song and it’s so good. The new single keeps their relatable lyrical essence, though, still sounding like a diary entry from Blue and talks candidly about desire and yearning, capturing the complex feelings of a forbidden attraction.
This is also an incredibly personal song to the singer Blue Happel, as the single “also reflects personal changes in their sexuality and attraction, intertwined with themes of Catholic guilt and religion inspired by their upbringing”. Its raw honesty and deep emotional roots truly make this a remarkable and vulnerable song, disguised as an absolute banger. By diving deep into the alternative rock sounds of the late 80s and early 90s, myclownshoes come out as a fresh and revitalized band with a fearless attitude and thrilling dynamics.
Their new production style arrives as a sharp and bold decision, one that was carefully made at the same time that feels as natural as breathing. “Temptation Is a Weapon” also features a new collaboration with guitarist Max Hayes, whose quick-witted guitar chords and solo are essential to cement their new sound as a powerful one – and all of this happens in just under two and a half minutes.
“Temptation Is a Weapon” is almost like a second debut for the band, as they sound more than ready to let us in into this next chapter of their musical journey. With mere days away from its official release, their second album titled Tantrum is one that promises to blow us all away with its deep lyricism, introspective lyrics and killer rock production.
