German electronic music mastermind Luke Tangerine is at it again, and once more he isn’t doing it alone: this time, the artist collaborates with ukranian musician Ambitstream on fascinating new single “Sonic Youth”, that also features vocals from none other than Kate Pending. There wasn’t really an universe in which this would not work, as three of the most creative and inventive artists within the current electronic music landscape get together in the same song.

Naming your song “Sonic Youth” in itself is already a bold and ambitious move, but the three artists did not let down. Their collaborative new single sounds utterly fascinating, like being hit by a bolt of lightning in the middle of the night. The song brings out the best of each of them, venturing Luke Tangerine’s house tendencies into a softer side that is lit by Ambitstream’s ambient and IDM influences. The track is dynamic and fast-paced, like a kaleidoscope of sounds that constantly swirl and fall in and out of each other.
The arpeggiated synths feel alive, infused with incredible energy and passion, and serve as the perfect background for Kate Pending’s unique vocal style that oscilates between spoken word and infeccious melodies. “Sonic Youth” is the perfect cut of a night out with friends, dancing around to great music and feeling comfortable in your own skin. The chemistry and synergy between the three musicians is palpable, and that enriches the experience of listening to the track even more. “Being part of ‘Sonic Youth’ has been a thrilling experience.
