Calgary-based indie folk trio Duhaney has just released their first ever single, the bright and sunny “Everybody Wants You”, and it comes as a perfect piece of feel-good music that we all need from time to time. Originally hailing from Manchester, England, before finding their creativity on the Canadian music scene, the trio is led by singer, songwriter and author Greg Duhaney and also features Rob Spencer and Bryan Craig as members making up for a talented array of musicians.
Their debut single, “Everybody Wants You”, comes across as a light and airy composition, focusing on positivity and brightness in a stark contrast to the difficulties faced by Greg. The artists have faced toughness in the form of cancer and the loss of loved ones, and instead use these experiences to promote positive change and focus on the good things. An incredibly inspiring story on its own, this is backed by a really great melodies, impeccable sense of humour and an overall sound that is pleasing and warm.
The soundscape explored by Duhaney on this first release borrows elements from indie folk, pop and alternative rock with sprinkles of country that lighten up every mood. It’s a pretty straightforward track, beautifully produced and filled with dynamic hooks and poetic lyricism. “This song is a tribute to the electrifying spark of new love, the blissful honeymoon phase, and the enduring power of relationships”, says Greg himself about the track.
The band’s unmatched sense of humour comes across in the music video for the track, which sets itself up as a parody of Beyoncé’s legendary “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, and serves as definitive proof of the band’s willing to go the extra mile to bring fun, lightness and smiles abound. “Everybody Wants You” is the positive song that we all needed, a track that basks in sunlight but still carries across an importante message of acceptance and support. This is an incredible promising start for the trio, a song that feels like a statement of what they are about: it’s a love story, and I just said yes.
