Over here we are all huge fans of the DCxPC Live project, putting out incredible live performances mainly from punk rock and metal acts, as amazing vinyl-only releases. The latest one in the DCxPC Live series is one for the history books: The Vol. 21 features nothing other than the final live performance from Richmond punk rockers Ann Beretta, making it the second DCxPC Live release from them.

Ann Beretta was a four-piece punk band that had its inception way back in 1996, and the band has put out several releases including eight studio albums, amongst other things such as live albums, EPs and singles before finally disbanding in 2023. Their legacy speaks for itself, as the band has shown immense creativity with their take on punk rock by adding elements that ranged from country to rockabilly into their straightforward punk sounds.
On June 10th of 2023, Ann Beretta played their last show together as a band on their hometown of Richmond, VA, at the Richmond Music Hall. Their career-spanning set has now been forever immortalized on this exclusive vinyl, released by the DCxPC Live project and it’s one breath-taking performance from the band.

When you think of punk rock, the first thing that comes to mind is rapid-fire guitars, fast pacing and urgent vocals – and, indeed, all of this is present here from start to finish. But what sets this live album apart from the rest is the always constant feeling of nostalgia, of thankfulness and support over the years. As the band kicks off their set with the fiery “The Sound of the Revolution”, a cut from their final studio release RISE back in 2022, we already can feel of that emotions setting in: this is the last time. So, let’s make one hell of a party out of it!

That emotional mentality of playing as a band for the final time permeates the performances and give them one extra layer; but in true punk rock fashion Ann Beretta goes hard and goes fast every step of the way. Their passionate, feral and primal performance that rummages through twelve iconic songs that celebrate their time as a band perfectly. At some points of the live recordings, we get to hear the audience shouting and clapping and this just comes to enhance even more the experience of celebration and unity.
Contrary to popular beliefs, the punk rock community is an incredibly warm and welcoming one, apart from a few exceptions. Getting to be there for this final concert from Ann Beretta must have been humbling and an honor, and now we all get to hear it. After one fiery set, ending it all with frontman Rob Huddleston performing an acoustic rendition of “The Last Song” is truly inspiring and could melt the heart of any happy kid or sad punk. In an impeccable mix of urgency, humour and melodic sense backed by emotions on their sleeves, Ann Beretta’s final hurrah stands as one for the ages.
