“The idea for this song first came to me when I was toying with some rhythms and chords. Then quite suddenly some lyrical lines sprang to my mind – seemingly without any real effort on my part. The first verse came to me fully formed, all at once.” Lee Scrivner

Formed in the early 2000s, Inviolet Row was originally comprised of frontman Lee Scrivner and his childhood friend Kevin Brewer. Their first drummer, Abe Millett, went on to play with Third Eye Blind, and their second drummer, Ronnie Vanucci, later joined The Killers.
“When lyrics come to me all at once like this, I consider it a gift from the gods–even when I’m not exactly sure what they mean. And then it’s kind of left to me to figure out what the sense of it is.” Lee Scrivner
Their sound is influenced by 80’s post-punk and new wave, as well as 90’s and early 2000’s indie. Following acts like Flaming Lips, Interpol, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, The Killers, and Killing Joke.
Anyway this is our first single to be widely released in a long time. The band is coming off of a long hiatus and is starting to write and record new music. So, stay tuned!”
“Alpha Male”, their upcoming single, was inspired by recent events such as the rise of AI companions, sex bots, and all forms of technological romance. The track is the first love song ever written to a girl who is in love with an AI-generated boyfriend cloned from Benedict Cumberbatch… I know, nuts!
“Gradually the concept took shape that I was describing some kind of robot, you can call it a companionship robot or even a kind of sex bot. The idea is that my girlfriend met some kind of android called The Alpha Male at a party and she decided to rent him and take him home.
The idea is that the robot’s personality can be the clone of a movie star, and so you can rent a robot that looks and acts like your favorite celebrity. Of course, the moral of this story is a bit of a condemnation of celebrity culture and of artificial forms of romance – through the fantasies of celebrity culture.” Lee Scrivner
The track is pretty well done. The instrumental is carefully crafted, capturing that 00’s essence of magic and sense of young freedom that you don’t hear very much nowadays. Vocals are intimate and humane, contrasting with the theme of the actual lyrics: chasing the love of a machine.
Lee Scrivner’s vocals have been compared to Steve Kilbey of The Church, and even Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs.
