The sky is getting dark. Nathalie Bonin, a bright rising star in the realm of cinematic composers, is ready to reveal a powerful and captivating single “Stormy skies”. A quiet wave of eeriness arrives as “Stormy Skies” opens up to reveal its moody and chilling atmosphere. Those last moments of relative calm are filled with heavy air and trees stiffening up as last critters hurriedly seek shelter. Then, the wall of wind arrives along with bright slashes of lightning. Everything now holds on with dear life.
Spiraling madness of strings describe vividly, what’s happening under the low, fast-running clouds of terror, There’s a moment of deceptive calm with barometric pressure drop making its way to the shifting spiral. While the rain nourishes dry grounds, the whirlwind makes everything fly in well-defined circular chaos of strings and percussion. And just as quickly, the last thunderclap marks the end of this violent storm, leaving behind a ruffled, soaked land.
In the short time this storm claims total control over everything, “Stormy Skies” has basically done a full refresh on the landscape. Some trees and rooftops are gone, but within destruction, new beginnings are now able to form. That’s the beauty of devastating storms Nathalie Bonin has captured in her masterful storyteller cinematic orchestral music.
“I wanted to create a cinematic composition that takes the listener on an emotional journey through sounds, depths, textures combining organic orchestral elements, my violin as well as a mix of layered synths, percussions and FX. The track has close to 150 tracks of various instruments, sounds and FX combined to create an immersive soundscape and inspire various emotions all mixed in surround Dolby Atmos. (Of course you will only hear the stereo version on the radio).
This is my first true exploration in composing and mixing for Dolby Atmos and it was great to work with Janis Eglitis and his team at Audilla in Riga (Latvia). We worked remotely, me recording and pre-mixing in Los Angeles and them in Riga. Audilla studio specializes in surround mixing and throughout my creative process, I was able to comprehend the capabilities of surround sound and also how to compose, arrange and produce the various sound elements to best use this new audio playground.”
