This Friday on August 16th, Mr Kane reveals his newest foray into ethereal electronica by releasing a single called “Kolkata X”. Combining hypnotizing eastern european folk vocals with electrifying trance elements, the result is something you don’t need any drugs for. “Kolkata X” drags you in for quite an experience: a fairly intense combination of dark sweaty trance club dancefloors and a fleeting cosmic journey.
Like all good journeys start off with a stable determination, so does this track. A 4 on the floor beat along with electric trance synthline sets the scene for a dive into the ethereal realm, and it’s fuelled by the vocal sample, originally from some Eastern-European folk music. Wherever the listener is originally situated – a bar, a cozy couch at home or outside on a walk, the energy of “Kolkata X” seeps into the mind effortlessly and creates a clear vision of a hybrid of space journey taking place in messy, sweaty and dark dancefloor. And this energy keeps building up.
Gear-shifting moments come by to add new elements to the track’s speedy journey, like a new melody or a percussive element. Those changes, marked by ethereal choral vocals, keep driving the energy up higher and all you can do is comply. Hazy drumbeat contrasting the well-outlined synth melody, there are moments for resting before the rise up continues. In the end at cosmic heights, “Kolkata X” eases up a little and shows its flowing, floaty side, a sound of having finally reached the destination.
“Coming from a rural area in Ayrshire Scotland. I had recently seen the growing diversity and wanted to incorporate that into my tune. I had added a small didgeridoo part (shout out to Tribalneed) as had some some of his stripped back dreamy techno. I still don’t know what the vocal riff translates as.”

Mr Kane is a dedicated electronic music producer from Scotland, who is keen on exploring the far edges of electronica. While “Kolkata X” saw him combining folk elements with hazy psytrance fuel, the producer’s musical output is even more diverse than that and runs across everything, from house to techno, always in search for something new to bring on the table.
