Masterfully blending together elements that range from classic rock and blues to psychedelia and R&B, “The Void” is a track that perfectly captures Tidal Water’s world building expertise. So much of the band’s music and lyricism is rooted insocial commentary, backed by Martin’s personal experiences and concerns, and they translate those matters and anxieties in an incredibly nuanced way.

“The Void” comes after the successful single “Defiance”, which showcased a more traditional garage rock inspired sound, and stands as a very interesting step for the band. By exploring new territories, the band made their sonics richer and infused with so much soul and refinement, “The Void” feels like a natural step up from their previous efforts and everything works very well from start to finish.

Interestingly, alongside Tidal Water’s new single “The Void”, frontman Martin Hovden is also about to release a new track from his drum and bass/noise side project in collaboration with electronic musician Papa J. The single, titled “Blind and Arrogant”, features much more playful lyrics that tackle themes like Hovden’s own ego with self-deprecating sense of humour. The two tracks are as different as they could be, serving as contrasting sides of Martin’s creativity flowing side by side each other.

Martin upholds himself as a truly unique musician with a very clear vision that shines like a kaleidoscope of influences, styles and craftsmanship. Both projects confirm Martin as an inventive mastermind, an artist that has so much to share that he simply cannot stop – and we’re all incrediby lucky in regards to that.
