It’s always exciting to witness the birth of a brand-new music project from the very start, and that is exactly the case with Attom Darcy Blvd and its debut single “Let’s Try Again”. The project is headed by Los Angeles-based artist, musician and actor Mick (Matt Carmody), who writes the music and lyrics, and it’s a collaboration with Canadian singer Michelle Carter.
The track is an intoxicating journey back to the heyday of soul music, channelling legends such as Otis Redding and Etta James. There is an instant timeless and classic feel to the song, that serves as a heartfelt homage to such an incredible era of music history. “Let’s Try Again” impresses with its soulful delivery and absolutely on-point production, crafting waves of strings and horns that swell around the simple guitar riffs as the song reaches its emotional climax.
Mick, the mastermind behind it all, embarks on a nostalgia-infused ride that establishes the artist as a true lover of soul music and it shows. Every single chord change, arrangement and progression works beautifully together as a way to recreate the ambiance and atmosphere that used to pour out of those legendary singers and songwriters, and Mick does it incredibly well. But, of course, he didn’t do it alone: “Let’s Try Again” in the end is a collaboration between Mick and several different people, ranging from producers to engineers as well as the aforementioned Michelle Carter.

Produced by Joe Cruz, who’s worked with alt pop star Carly Rae Jepsen, and featuring drums by the illustrious Curt Bisquera whose credits include Joni Mitchell, Elton John and Mick Jagger amongst others. “I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing artists and musicians who contributed to this song. They are truly the best of the best,” Mick shared.
“Let’s Try Again” stands as a labor of love for a bygone era, done perfectly as both a comeback and as a tribute to those golden days. It’s still only the first step for Mick, and it’s enough to keep you eagerly waiting for what else is to come from here on in. Attom Darcy Blvd’s debut single feels as a certain reintroduction of said iconic and culture-shaping sounds to a modern and younger generation, while at the same time functioning clearly as an emotion-driven ballad capable of shining on its own.
