Citizens of YEAH! came to life thanks to the extraordinary Jonathan Womack, a musician who dabbled in bands in early 2000s Peterborough (UK) and has been cooking up catchy tunes for ages.

His grand plan for Citizens? To take on the drums, become a recording wizard, mix up a storm, and master the art of mastering. It’s like he took the saying “March to the beat of your own drum” quite literally!

Influences for Citizens of YEAH include Radiohead, The Smiths, Fontaines DC, PJ Harvey and Pixies. The recordings of Steve Albini were a strong reference point, particularly slint and low.

“3 Little Piggies” may seem like a familiar title, but it is far from a fairytale. In fact, it serves as a stark depiction of the current reality in the UK. With soaring living costs and increasing levels of discomfort, the single paints a grim picture of the present day.

You may sense a connection to Radiohead’s iconic track “Wolf At The Door”, as it uses the same juxtaposition of fantasy and reality in such a way that it exposes the harsh truths of society.

But while it may seem like a serious production, there’s actually a splash of vibrant fun behind the creation of this track.

It boasts featured vocals by Daniel Clifford of the sibling band Amateur Ornithologist from Newcastle. And that’s not all – it also features vocals from Fearne (aged 7) and an artwork designed by the talented Tom (aged 3).

It’s a collaboration of all ages, bringing together seasoned musicians and budding artists to create a truly unique masterpiece.

3 Little Piggies was initially conceived as if XTC played an …and you will know us by the trail of dead song but has ended sounding like neither.” Citizens Of Yeah!!!

“The song took a long time to write. About 6 months. I had the riff and the bass line for ages but couldn’t get anywhere with the melody/ vocals. Then my 3-year-old nephew asked for a song about wolves. This was around the time of rising inflation in the UK, and wolves at the door, repossessing your house seemed very apt. Then it fell into place very quickly.” Jonathan Womack
