It’s debut single time and this time it comes from a fresh and powerful pop duo from the US, called Laughing Cats. Their first single “GYB” stands for Get You Back, and it looks into the life of a confident woman and a man trying to get her back. Will she give in to his pleading, or has he already spent his chances? “GYB” comes crashing in to give a huge boost of dopamine and self-confidence!

Dressed in summery, sugary sound, “GYB” is a track of a woman putting self-image and independence on a high pedestal. She has just decided to shut the door to a fruitless relationship after realizing it just holds her back. Now, the track follows her knowing her self-worth and rejecting the pleas of an ex, and she also has friends in tandem, who support her decision.
As the first single for the band, and of their debut album, “GYB” does not shy away from showing what self-empowerment can do. “You deserve much more than this,” the tune says to people holding on to unhappy relationships and enforces it with the sound of upbeat energy surrounding a core of vulnerability. Don’t let anyone persuade you to think differently than what is in your heart.
“GYB (Get You Back) was a story inspired by watching the relationship of one of my friends. She’s a boss-lady, gorgeous, and has everything, but when I wrote this, her long-term relationship was a little unsteady. That said, he was determined not to lose her, even though he wasn’t willing to do the self-work to keep her.
But it’s about a girl standing her ground, knowing her worth, and making a statement that he’s gonna have to earn her back. It’s really open-ended whether or not he wins her back because every relationship is different. Maybe a listener shouldn’t take him back, and needs this song to give her that strength to finally let go, because I’ve certainly been there!”

Laughing Cats is an indie pop duo of lyricist Lauren Schiff and producer Tony Fredianelly, formerly a guitarist in Third Eye Blind. Soon after the two met with an idea of forming a duo, it became clear they are an ideal musical match, and now they have an album full of pop music ready to go. “GYB” is soon to be followed by the second single from this LP, a song titled “Jerk”, which will also have its own music video.
