This Thursday, October 10th, sees the release of The Muster Point Project’s new song “The Singing Mailman”. It’s a tale of becoming given a warm and nostalgic shine by TMPP’s knack for vibrant storytelling. The mailman himself was John Prine, and this is the story of how he became one of the most influential songwriters of his generation.
The Muster Point Project has a distinct sound and soft voice of an experienced, soulful person, most suitable for telling stories. He’s particularly great at delicately weaving emotions and thoughts together with the events his songs speak of. In “The Singing Mailman”, the story is that of success following a man, who was passionate about songwriting and wished to share his art with the world. And fittingly, the single is filled with warmth and admiration for the man named John, and is sung from the perspective of another, newer generation artist looking up to the inspiring legend.

From the mailman job and performing to small, but delighted crowds to getting discovered by chance by a passing movie critic, his journey to stardom was rapid and inspiring. The release date, October 10th, is also of significance – it’s John’s birthday. And even though he has already passed on, his legacy carries on giving.
The Muster Point Project is a Canadian indie band led by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Franco, currently working towards the release of a new full-length album due out in November. “The Singing Mailman” will be part of the release, which features many life-inspired themes ranging from the delightful and inspiring, like this single, to somber and introspective, such as “Old Black Suit“.
