On September 29th, Jean-Philippe Ruelle revealed his new body of work called “Callpeax”. In this song, a group of mysterious call stations are grouped together with each transmitting the same message in their own language. The message is universal, as it’s something that transcends all cultures and language barriers – Dare to Peace.
“Callpeax” sees Jean-Philippe Ruelle combine audio with dance in a hypnotic atmosphere to express what is often impossible to explain through words. Layered synths flow side-by-side with vocal samples transmitting a message through numbered alphabet, the initially calm drums soon exploding into a cascading exclamation of catharsis.

Mystery and a sense of imminence are weaved into the sound reminiscent of Boards of Canada and Air, and nearness is present in “Callpeax”‘ message as well. No matter in what language and what location the message transmission is from, the pursuit for peace is the same. This universally approachable call for peace speaks of importance to take a stand for a better future.
In the single’s accompanying music video, the eery mystery-veiled numeric calls are joined by similarly eery visuals of Earth, neighboring planets and mountains with parts of the message written out on. Once the song dives towards the catharsis, a dance part performed by Joëlle Kapompole takes over the stage, and the liquid expressive movements of Kapompole’s body convey the daring for peace message in a breathtaking performance wordlessly asking why we lack the courage to act for peace.
“Do not dare is to lose who you are” says Jean-Philippe Ruelle. The Belgium-based electronic music producer is passionate about conveying messages through delicately crafted musical landscapes. Through “Callpeax”, the artist encourages listeners to embrace who they are, and to find the courage to act for change.
I’m not a boy scout, but seeing everything that’s happening in the news and the violence with the acts of war, I told myself that I shouldn’t sit idly by. I’m just an artist, and I told myself that if I could, at my level, raise awareness for someone on the other side of the planet with my artistic work, the existence of this piece would be fully justified. ‘dare peace’ is probably the path that requires the most courage. Who’s going to start without feeling like they’re losing face?
