Active on the independent music scene since 2020, Irish duo T.A. Narrative has just released “SWAY”, their second track of the year. The sounds explored by Tara Nix and Anna Murphy are weaved like a complex crochet pattern of influences and inspirations that range from nu-disco to indie rock with a delightful pop flare. On their latest track, the Limerick-based duo comes out swinging with danceable drums, a killer bassline and crystalline melodies that reel you in hook after hook.

The duo had this track with them as they were writing and recording their EP but couldn’t find the right angle and production, so it was simmering for a few months. When producer Chris Kirby got his hands on it, he rearranged the structure and gave new life to the song by trimming its edges and honing its sound, transforming it into an absolute banger. T.A. Narrative has a very special way of crafting ambiences that have a slight hint of chaos in them, like something that could’ve come out on DFA Records.
“SWAY” is built like an intricate wave of sounds, featuring a production that is filled with rich textures and the duo ride that wave with confidence and elegance. It’s an incredible track that explores a very unique sound that falls somewhere between the Jessie Ware disco revival of What’s Your Pleasure? and the urgent dance punk from Les Savy Fav’s earlier career. T.A. Narrative created a very sensual and steamy atmosphere on their new song, bringing forth feelings of liberty and passion. It’s intriguing and sophisticated, merging nostalgic rhythms with modern stylings.
With lyricism that is rooted on a quest for freedom, “SWAY” is a song about losing your inhibitions and letting loose. If this was a movie, T.A. Narrative’s new single is the soundtrack for the montage in which the main character is getting ready for a night out with the single purpose of enjoying themself. A true confidence booster, “SWAY” beams with intensity and passionate musings that feel utterly intimate and universal at once.
Nothing is too much when you can make it work, and when they start to layer several different vocals on the outro that range from the melodic to spoken word you know they definitely know how to make it all work. “SWAY” is definitive proof that the duo is carving their own path and excelling at it, as one of the most creative and inventive acts on the current alternative dance scene.
