Tzucasa’s manifest on technology and AI on debut single “Robots Bore Me”

Tzucasa is a japanese artist born in Tokyo but raised in London, and she is about to release her latest proper single “Robots Bore Me”. The track, the first taste of her upcoming debut EP, was her first professional recording done in an actual studio; it was recorded at the legendary Roundhouse Studios in the English capitol under the guidance of rising british producer and engineer Rookes. “Robots Bore Me” is centered around the continuous use of artificial intelligence in music and ART AND serves as a powerful and human critique of it all.

The production of the track bets on abrasive and rough guitar sounds, reminiscent of early PJ Harvey, capturing feelings of frustration and anger towards the subject matter in a very honest and candid way. The track comes as a lovely surprise, picking up right where SASAMI left off on her stunner record Squeeze: harsh guitars fused together with electronic touches and a fierce vocal performance. The choice of making it a more punk-oriented track was a very mindful one, as Tzucasa herself says it came from the desire to keep the message unfiltered and authentic, allowing the most personal and truest emotions shining through.

It is my most straight-forward track on the EP and has raw and charged lyrics. I hope it rings loud and clear. We had a lot of fun shouting and making noise in the recording studio for this one“, the artist says before commenting that the session drummer on the studio did it all with a broken finger. “We all had no idea since he played so well. It’s rock and roll“, she concludes. “Robots Bore Me” does come across as a track with a very clear vision behind it, as it reflects on technology and its role in society as it urges us all to keep a pragmatic outlook on its advances and usages – especially in the art world.

Tzucasa "Robots Bore Me"

“Robots Bore Me” does an outstanding job in both delivering its message and introducing Tzucasa as a creative force. By critiquing modern society’s obsession with AI, the Japanese artist stands as a defender of actual human experiences and offers a unique look at robotics and everything that may come with it. Tzucasa emphasizes how advanced technology should be viewed as what it is: machines doing mundane tasks to help humans, and nothing else. This challenges the rising romanticized takes on AI and what it represents in contemporary society and does it while referencing the short story “Satisfaction Guaranteed” by American author Isaac Asimov originally published in 1951.

“The recording studio and the corner of my bedroom where I write these songs is my sanctuary – I only plan to have fun experimenting with music and use the songs as a way to heal my soul. My songs will always be authentic and the most honest version of myself, made in order to move forward. I hope you can also enjoy the ride and if I can make even one person resonate with the way I feel when I write and perform, then that’s all I need.”

An explosive track that borrows so much rawness from English punk in the 70s, “Robots Bore Me” is a phenomenal song that brings so many questions into the centerfold. It’s a poignant and precise critical look towards one of the present-day’s most urgent questions, and still manages to rock hard and deliver the kind of pressing guitar riffs and imperative percussion with nuance and detail that can only come from an actual human being.
