This October saw the release of Jenni Dale Lord’s newest body of work, a full-length album titled “A Million Moments”. As the title suggests, the LP is dedicated to the countless moments in life, everything from the fleeting bits to those of life-changing effect. Within these million moments, stories of love, introspection, loss and affection take place among much more.
“A Million Moments” by Jenni Dale Lord comes as a condensed package of life in its sad and beautiful moments, the album consists of 13 songs with a total runtime of almost 47 minutes. Within that timeframe, there are duets, somber and inward-gazing songs as well as some very upbeat tunes enjoying fine humorous times and melodies, that make people dance. Genre-wise the LP is a blend of many things, mainly influenced by classic rock, blues, Americana, and a twinge of country.
“The title track, A Million Moments, is word for word, absolutely true. The album started with that one, then the collection grew. All of my songs are inspired by things that happened in my life (which are universal trials and triumphs).” Jenni Dale Lord
When it comes to stories told by individual songs, the variety is as large as the band members’ inspirations, that have met on this release. Where some of the songs look deeper into the more joyful aspects of love and relationships, one of the most impactful songs is “Story of Your Life”. It’s a gentle ballad dedicated to Jenni Dale Lord’s late grandma, who passed during the production of the album. Jenni’s love for her has also been weaved into the latin influences on the romantic slow “Besame Mucho”, the album’s ending track.
“Story of Your Life was inspired by my grandmother’s passing. I was tasked with writing her obituary, and I kept thinking, “how do you put such big life into such a small space?” And I knew when my heart was ready, I would turn that sentiment into a song.” Jenni Dale Lord
There’s another condensed life story within the album. It’s the title track, a deeply emotional autobiographical song about Jenni Dale Lord herself, and the life she’s lived so far. Among others, there is a nostalgic look back to a special person once part of her life, “I Still Think About You”. Here Jenni sings a duet with Jerrod Medulla with the two forming a bittersweet and sentimental song of what was and what could’ve been.
Where life hits the hardest, music heals the best. Jenni Dale Lord’s new release is, while deeply personal, also universally approachable to everyone, who has lived, dreamed, loved and lost. The soul medicine is packaged into ear-caressing melodies and warm instrumentals, making for a calming yet thought-provoking listen.
