On November 8th, Tom Hancock releases a new single called “Happiness”. Beneath its tender acoustic sound expressing joy, the song explores the unstable and fast-moving nature of happiness and what it brings along, when experienced in excess. Thus, the joy is given a hint of caution and a whole lot of nostalgia, as “Happiness” walks through past events in the artist’s life.

Visualizing a day like today, the backdrop for “Happiness” is formed through softly flowing acoustic melodies depicting a serene mood. The serenity allows for a safe look back to prior times of happiness, most notably a relationship once a source of joy. Tom’s poetic lyricism brings out the thornier side of happiness – namely how easily it slips away, and seemingly forever as well.

And so, the once happy relationship was lost to self-sabotage, the confident soul finding itself lost from its path again. Harmonica-led interludes and Hancock’s tender melodic vocals bring the story back to today, now viewing the past loss of love and happiness from a nostalgic and wiser side. Happiness is bliss, but must be carefully handled, for it can also be cruel and abandon you.
To celebrate the release of this song the artist will host a launch event on November 8th at Vintage Music Power (209 Rue Saint Maur, 75010) in Paris. This event promises an intimate evening of music and storytelling.
The song is the debut single of Tom, a nomadic singer-songwriter creating sincere and poetic songs with themes on life’s multiple facets. As an acoustic musician writing mostly folk, inspiration comes from the likes of Nick Drake and Sufjan Stevens, but also his own nomadic lifestyle.
