“Will You Still” is centered around the concept of a fight between lovers, navigating through it with unfiltered emotions. Caught between hope that things will be alright soon and the despair that comes with the thought of ‘what if this is over for good?’, Marcel captures the internal conflict with vivid imagery and gorgeous production. Featuring orchestrations, a beautiful piano and chaotic percussion, “Will You Still” grows to epic proportions that perfectly match the uneasiness of its lyrics.
I Panic blends classical music stylings with pop sensibility and musical theatre resolutions, filled with dramatic twists and impeccable vocal delivery. “Will You Still” explores the ultimate question ‘when all of this is over, will you still love me?’ and there is genuine concern staining the artist’s voice every step of the way. We might say that “Will You Still” is a double-single release, being the previous single “Beautiful Buildings” as its b-side. The track was released by I Panic back in June, and it’s another beautiful song with a completely different setup. Recorded with only voice and piano, in “Beautiful Buildings” Marcel compares the beginning of a new relationship with the slow construction of a building brick by brick. Along its story, there are several lovely images of turning it into a home to be lived in, providing comfort and shelter. It’s a soothing and comforting track, an exploration of I Panic’s softer side with a gentle and hopeful message.
The duality found on these two songs together is gobsmacking, like opposite sides of the same life. They do a wonderful job in adding more depth, perspective and context to each other and it’s a very unique dynamic. Marcel is an amazing lyricist, crafting entire stories within his songs and rooting them on universal experiences and relatable, intricate complexities that come with human relationships. These two tracks prove Marcel as one of the most interesting and talented musicians of his generation, continuing to outdo himself and getting even better as time goes by – and that is something very, very special.
