Nu-metal/jazz fusion act Epic Sigh first appeared with debut single “The Night I Died” and the Las Vegas-based band is already back with the first release from their upcoming album, Back to the City. “Figure It Out!” is an urgent and intense track that sets the tone and lays the concept of their album with poignant precision.
“The song will open our first full-length, which will be a concept album telling the story of an outlaw breaking her partner in crime/boyfriend out of jail after initially betraying him and leaving his ass for the cops (because that’s such a girl thing to do, right?)”, singer Nina Carmine told us about the thought-process behind the storytelling. The fascinating narrative that will unveil itself across the foundation of their debut has its roots in human emotions and experiences, approached with sense of humor and tremendous amounts of energy.
On “Figure It Out!” the group crafts an explosive track that blends influences from 90s nu-metal acts like Slipknot and Korn with modern hard rock production. Their melodies crash like waves under moonlight, getting more and more violent each time and finding itself somewhere between anger and melancholia. The experimental touches on their metal-inspired production adds a very interesting depth to the work, showing that there still new stuff to be done in the metal realm today.

Founding members and sisters Nina and Aleena Carmine started the band as a music production project at school, but their clear passion and core knowledge of metal took things to the next level. It’s a heavy-in-your-face track that feels unapologetic and destructive, but what makes it so compelling is the sisters’ realistic, down-to-earth approach to songwriting on “Figure It Out!”
As Nina told us, “(there are) no feel-good vibes to be found here, there are no heroes in the stories we tell”. A sense of dread is rooted deeply within their music, and the sisters translate it incredibly well. Epic Sigh is a band that knows their metal and knows that it takes much more than heavy riffs and distortion to create a great metal song – and when they do it, it feels easy. Their upcoming album Back to the City is one to keep an eye out for!
