Israeli musician and songwriter Pini Gurfil has been on a campaign in support for his new album, Read the Lyrics, having released three singles over the year including “Final Romance“. Now the album is finally here, and it deals with ever relevant themes of social commentary as well as instrospective pieces that reflect on the world at large and relationships.

Read the Lyrics is a colorful album that paints a rich landscape filled with unusual production choices, interesting dynamics, and a true clash of different influences thrown together. The Haifa-based artist creates his very own brand of progressive rock, with elements that range from jazz and rockabilly to goth rock. Pini is unafraid to experiment and let his deep velvet vocals take the lead, leaning in on the dramatic and theatrical with varied intensity levels.
Rooted in exploring complicated topics like faith and solitude, the artist is a songwriter first. That is made clear from the album’s title: his lyricism is the most important here. Pini delves into poetic musings that revolve around impressionistic and contemplative thoughts that come to life through beautiful and often unique production. On his second album, the songwriter and poet Pini Gurfil feels confident as he runs through layers of interesting soundscapes that truly couldn’t have been made by anyone else. The personality and charm that pours out of every syllable really help to cement Pini as a one-of-a-kind artist and, especially, one who can do anything and lead the way in any direction he pleases.
