Vølve is the latest project coming from Danish singer and musician Helene Navne, perhaps most known as the frontwoman of indie rock act TROLN. She’s just released her latest single as Vølve, “Les Trois Amies”, a french-language ethereal ballad that blends folk musings with cinematic neoclassical landscapes highly influenced by norse mythology, womanhood and nature.
Calling it her most personal project to date, Helene navigates through an atmosphere that feels angelical and otherworldly on “Les Trois Amies”, sounding more experimental than ever. “With dreamy melodies, lush arrangements, and deeply personal lyrics, I aim to create an intimate and transformative listening experience”, the artist herself says about her sonic palette and what Vølve’s music stands for. Her whispery falsetto vocals create fluid melodies that drip and ripple like water on a pond, expanding in and out of itself and getting grander by the second.
A song about how our differences make us unique, “Les Trois Amies” succeeds in highlighting and celebrating our vulnerability as magical instead of something to fear or feel ashamed of. Influenced by the likes of Kate Bush, Enya, and AURORA, Helene’s music feels special and sparkling with introspective narratives that unfold into whimsical realms in which mermaids, witches, and fairies long for love and companionship. It’s a breathtaking journey through the mythical and the natural world that finds Helene telling these stories with the candor of a best friend.

“Les Trois Amies” defies conventional structures in both production as well as lyricism, making the song feel like a long lost scandinavian poem from centuries ago. As Helene turns their lives into folklore, we can feel the strong emotional connection that she as narrator has with each one of the three friends. It’s a track that blurs the lines between the real and surreal, expanding the roles of imagination and passion into something tactile and palpable.
It’s Helene’s second single as Vølve, following last year’s “Enter the Unknown”, and already shows us that she has so much to teach and tell us from this brand new perspective. “Les Trois Amies” is a track that feels experimental and comforting, an invitation into the fantastical domain of the unexplainable coming from one of its most trusted guides.
