Finnish nu-metal act Silence the Echo returns with “Through the Dark”, their powerful new single just a little over a month since their excellent debut “Into Serenity”. The band was born in 2022 out of vocalist Katja and multi-instrumentalist and composer Jani Stefanovic, husband and wife duo, and their mutual desire to make music together. The project slowly evolved into a full-fledged five-piece band that raises the stakes and defies what metal can sound like.
Their first single of the year is another taste of what to expect from their full-length debut album, due to later this year, and shows the band’s bold vision changing shapes in a dynamic and thrilling heavy metal track. The song’s lyricism reflects the daily struggles of living in a world full of chaos but still ultimately manages to serve as a reminder that there is hope to be found. The positivity of the track comes from a place of faith, according to the band themselves, and “Through the Dark” does a remarkable job in portraying such conflicting emotions through performance and production.
Silence the Echo teamed up with renowed producer Thomas Johansson in Sweden in order to create the track, an impressive example of innovative thinking inside the metal realm. The band explores waves of emo metal once travelled by the likes of Evanescence and Nightwish, but strip them down and focus heavily on the melody aspects. Katja’s vocals soar through the production with angelic precision, managing to deliver impactful emotions and ever-changing cinematic moods with elegance and grace.
The track arrives accompanied by a performance-based music video that highlights the emotions beautifully sung by Katja through lights and shadows providing the cathartic release the song calls for.
