Romeo and Juliet is the title of the latest EP from american alternative rock band Ubiquity Machine, and it stands as the first half of their upcoming FULL-LENGTH record. Released late last year in December, the EP shows the duo expanding upon their usual sound with experimental musings and stylish electronics.

The music released by Ubiquity Machine, a duo consisting of Howard Rabach and The Rabbit, has always seamlessly matched glittery electronics amongst its acoustic and electric guitars with graceful precision. The duo has been extremely prolific since their “Hey You” debut in 2023, giving us hours of music in the form of singles and albums since day one. The EP Romeo and Juliet is a compilation of the five tracks the band put out starting shortly after their debut album Where We Are and Where We Want to Be last March.
Across the five tracks that make up their latest offering we get to experience a band that sounds completely focused and in tune within itself. The confidence spread over these tracks is essential for the experience, as the band are seeing exploring chamber pop landscapes that can go from Belle and Sebastian to Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust era Sigur Rós and it never once anything sounds messy or out of place. Their fusion of alternative rock with folk and electronics finds Ubiquity Machine being able to walk through different realms with wide-eyed wonder, finding interesting hooks and melodies from each and combining everything together with elegance.

Romeo and Juliet stand as a remarkable and exciting release not only because of its sonic diversity but also attracts attention with compelling lyricism. Filled with rich textures, inventive characters and firmly rooted in strong emotional storytelling, Ubiquity Machine lays the ground for an even bigger second album with this release. All of their cards are on the table, allowing the duo to reorder and restack them as they like, bending sounds and melodies to their will. Where We Are… was already a great record, but on Romeo and Juliet we see the band adding even more thrills to their music and everything clicks like the pieces of a puzzle.
Ubiquity Machine delivered an EP filled to the brim with charm and personality, mixing and matching different stylistic choices and productions as a way to fully achieve their vision. And they did it so well in these five tracks that you can’t help but smile as you run through them. It’s so nice to know that this is only half of the album, as I can’t wait to hear what the remaining tracks have in store for us.
