Portugal-based act Elderly White Man returns with the hauntingly beautiful new single “Come Over Here and Stay”, inspired by the works of expressionist painter Egon Schiele. The new single from the duo creates an infeccious atmosphere of loneliness and beauty, combining elements of psychedelic rock and ethereal synths that complement the poignant lyricism incredibly well.

On “Come Over Here and Stay” the band crafts a melody-driven story of vivid emotion, pulling from technology and global events and how these things are driving society into isolated loneliness more and more. It’s an affecting track that highlights the duo’s ability to portray rich and complex emotions through familiar means, much like seen on Schiele’s brush strokes. The track does a remarkable job in recreating the intensity and rawness that has always cemented Schiele’s work into a soundscape that feels vast, making it a place someone could get lost in.

Recorded in Campo, Portugal, the track is an unique exploration of isolation in modern day society with graceful execution. Featuring a memorable chorus and incredible guitar work, “Come Over Here and Stay” is an impressive piece of music that delves deep into those feelings completely free of judgement; as sometimes loneliness can be comforting as well. Elderly White Man understands that and translates it perfectly into their music as they navigate through intricate and thought-provoking lyrics and melodies.

Schiele’s notions of distorted and haunting beauty are captured by the duo with both caution and fascination, creating a song that takes you places you may not go for yourself but feel relief once you get there. It’s a very cinematic track that constantly expands upon itself with strings and analogue synths as well as touches of darkwave and well-placed psychedelia.

The isolation examined by Elderly White Man on their new single feels inviting in a certain way, with dream-like atmospheres that evoke intimacy. Rooted in universal human emotions and feelings, “Come Over Here and Stay” unveils a somber side to their music that wasn’t fully explored by them until now. It’s a bold step forward in a new sonic direction for the band, making the best possible use of textures and melodies that ultimately finds comfort in its own melancholia.
