In Valentines Day, The Venz is set to release his newest single “Slow Motel”, a song about love as is fit for the day. However, it’s not a romantic song, but rather one depicting a dysfunctional relationship with two people not meeting each other’s needs. After too much time spent in this frayed state, a change is dearly desired.

Hazy atmosphere full of pensive thoughts enter the stage as the song starts, giving a visual of deep unhappiness present in all possible layers, from the surroundings to the inner state of the people in this dragging relationship. It’s a funeral song in a sense that the love that once was present is long dead, and what is left is a husk of a romance devoid of all positive feelings.

But besides the mournful sound, the mind has been made up. This situation of two people stressed and worn out by each other must end now, and it’s reflected by emotional vocals raising to the skies. Tomorrow, the final split-up will happen, and the Slow Motel is there to offer accommodation for the one leaving. In between the lines written by a firm mind, the mourning state is still there, standing for the time lost living in that relationship.

I wrote this about 4 years ago when my songwriting professor showed us a picture of a man sitting on a bed smoking a cigarette in dirty clothes. Behind him was a miserable looking woman in little clothing. My professor then told us to write a song just from looking at this image and “Slow Motel” was thus created. I had a demo of the song that I recorded in my apartment but wanted to take it to the next level and have Jess feature on the song as well.

This heavy theme is performed as a duet between The Venz and his fiancé, both with captivating, emotionally moving voices. While the situation in the song came from imagination, this is still a reality many people live in, people, who are yet to make up their mind on the relationship or cannot leave for various reasons. In a day where love, friendship, and romance are celebrated everywhere, it must be remembered that there’s a shadowy side to love, and it’s going to trap and hurt.

The Venz greets from Chatham, US, where the singer-songwriter works on creating impactful music with the sound inspired by the likes of Twenty One Pilots, and themes found from life with its spiraling paths. As for what The Venz will be getting into in the future – follow the artist and you’ll have plenty of captivating melodies to look forward to!

I have two degrees in music and have released two albums just by myself but just over a year and a half ago I met my fiancee Jessica who is from South Africa at a local bar, on her birthday, and we competed in a pool tournament. Shortly after we met I heard potential in her voice and wanted to start making music together.
